How to Remove Read

1. Close the Word document. Go to the location where it is saved and right click on the file. This produces a menu of options. Select “Properties.”
2. Uncheck the box beside “Read-only” in the “Attributes” section of the file’s “Properties” box. Click the “OK” button to apply the change and close the box.
3. Open the Word document. Notice that the “(Read-only)” notification at the top of the document has disappeared. It is now possible to edit and save changes in the document.
4. Unprotect the file if it is still locked. Click “Tools” on the navigation bar and select “Unprotect.” If a password is required, an “Unprotect document” dialog box will pop up. Enter the password into the blank field and click the “OK” button. If no password is required, clicking “Unprotect” immediately frees the document for editing.
