How to Convert MS Office Files to Mac

1. Open the iWork application which corresponds to the Office document you wish to convert. For Microsoft Word documents, which usually have the .doc extension, this will be Apple Pages. Microsoft Excel documents ending with .xls extension will use Apple Numbers. Microsoft Powerpoint documents, typically having a .ppt extension, will use Apple Keynote. Visio or Access documents cannot be converted using a Mac.
2. In the "Template Chooser" that pops up, click on “Open an Existing File.” The iWork app will present you with an "Open" dialog box. Alternatively, you can use the keystroke "Command-O" after opening your iWork application to bring up the "Open" dialog box.
3. Drag your MS Office documents into the "Open" dialog box. Alternatively, you can use the box to navigate to your Office documents. Click "OK." The document will be imported into iWork. A popup window will inform you of any problems that occur during the file conversion. Review any warnings you receive in this dialog and review your documents to ensure that the conversion has occurred without any problems. At this point, you have an Office document on disk and a reformatted iWork equivalent in memory.
4. Click "Save As..." from the File menu. Alternatively, you can use the keystroke "Command-Shift-S" to achieve the same effect. Select a name for your the iWork version of your document and click "OK."
