How to Create Different Headers and Footers Within Word Documents
1. Open Microsoft Word program by double-clicking on its icon. If you don't have Word on your computer, go online to Office.Microsoft.com to download a free trial version or purchase the full version. When Word is open, go to the “File” menu, and then select “New blank document”. A new document will appear; you can either type your text first, or format your headers and footers.
2. To format the header and footer, go to the “View” menu and select “Header and footer.” The page will show a dotted box on top for the header, and at the bottom for the footer. Also, a formatting box will be available to change fonts, alignment and colors, as well as to insert page numbers, or the date and time, or the file name and path of the document.
3. Type the desired text into the header. You can also copy and paste pictures or clip art. Format your text to the desired font attributes, font size, and color. You can align the header left, center or right. To escape the header and footer and return back to your document, double click anywhere in the body of the page, outside the header and footer box. Your header and footer will appear light gray--distinguishing them from the rest of the document--but will print normally.
4. In a similar manner as with the header in Step 2, double-click in the dotted footer box. Input the desired text and/or clip art into the footer. You might want to insert a page number or a date and time with a center align. Double-click anywhere outside the footer box to return to your document.
