How to Insert Tab Leaders in Microsoft Word
1. Set Word to display the ruler, if it doesn't already, by clicking the 'View' tab and placing a check mark in the 'Ruler' box.
2. Select the area of a document for which you want a tab with a leader, or press 'Ctrl-A' to select the entire document.
3. Click on the ruler at the horizontal measure at which you want to insert a tab. Hold down the mouse button and drag the tab to the left or right, if necessary. When you release the mouse button, a small right angle will remain to indicate the tab stop.
4. Double-click on the tab stop indicator to open the 'Tabs' dialog box.
5. Click once on the tab stop you just created -- not the measure in the editable field above the tab list but the one under it. The tab stop is simply a measure, such as 4.5.'
6. Click one of the three 'Leader' buttons. Number 2 creates a dotted line leader, which appears '[text].......[text]'; Number 3 creates a dashed line leader, which appears '[text]--------[text]'; and Number 4 creates a solid underline leader, which appears '[text]_____[text].' Number 1 is the option for no leader at all.
7. Click 'Set,' then 'OK' to set the tab leader and close the dialog box.
