How to Change the Start of a Numbering List in Word 2007
1. Create a numbered list. In Word 2007, click the 'Home' tab on the ribbon (Word 2007's menu system, which displays across the top of the screen), and then click the icon representing a numbered list (find this icon--which shows '1, 2, 3' with lines after the numbers--in the 'Paragraph' area of the ribbon). A '1.' will automatically appear in your document.
2. Type your first list item. When you hit 'Enter' after your item is complete, Word 2007's list feature will automatically place a '2.' on the next line. Continue adding steps or items until your list is complete.
3. Place your cursor over the number (not the text after the number but the number itself) that you would like to change. Right-click the number, hover over (do not click) 'Numbering' in the window that pops up and then click 'Set Numbering Value' at the bottom of the next window that opens.
4. Change the starting number of the list. In the section marked 'Set value to,' enter the number or use the arrow keys until you find the number you'd like your list to start with. All subsequent numbers in the list will shift so they are in numerical order beginning with the number you just changed.
