How to Raise a Number to a Power in OpenOffice Writer


Using Toolbar
1. Click on the small downward arrow at the end of the Formatting toolbar. The Formatting toolbar includes options to format text, such as the 'Bold' and 'Underline' buttons.
2. Point to 'Visible Buttons' in the menu that pops up and click 'Superscript.' Writer will place a 'Superscript' button on the Formatting toolbar. The button's icon is a letter 'A' written in superscript next to a letter 'A.'
3. Highlight the number you want to raise to a power, and click the 'Superscript' button.
Using Menu
4. Click 'View,' point to 'Toolbars' and click 'Customize' to open Writer's toolbar customization options.
5. Select 'Formatting' from the 'Toolbar' drop-down menu.
6. Scroll down in the list of 'Commands' until you find the 'Superscript' option. Check the box to add a 'Superscript' button the toolbar. Click 'OK' to save your changes.
7. Highlight the number you want to raise to a power, and click the 'Superscript' button now located on your 'Formatting' toolbar. By default, it will be next to the 'Underline' button.
Using Keyboard Shortcut
8. Press the 'Ctrl' key, the 'Shift' key and 'P' simultaneously to turn superscript on.
9. Type the number you want to raise to a power.
10. Press the 'Ctrl' key, 'Shift' key and 'P' simultaneously to turn superscript off.
