How to Change the Spacing in Microsoft Word 2007


How to Change Spacing Between Lines
1. Use your mouse to highlight the section of the document you want to change the line spacing for, or hold down "Ctrl" and "A" to select the entire document. If the document is blank there is no need to select any part of the document.
2. Click the "Home" tab at the top of the screen if it isn't already selected.
3. Locate and click on the "Line Spacing" button in the "Paragraph" section. The "Line Spacing" button has four small horizontal lines next to a vertical arrow that points up and down.
4. Choose the line spacing option that meets your needs. For example, if you want your document to be double spaced, click "2.0."
5. Click "Line Spacing Options..." if you do not see the line spacing that you want listed. From there you can click on the dropdown menu under "Line Spacing:" to change the type of spacing, or adjust the arrows under "At:" to further customize your spacing.
How to Change Spacing Between Characters
6. Use your mouse to highlight the section of the document you want to change the character spacing for, or hold down "Ctrl" and "A" to select the entire document.
7. Click the "Home" tab at the top of the screen if it isn't already selected. Locate the "Font" section of the "Home" tab.
8. Open the font dialog box by clicking the small arrow at the bottom of the "Font" section or by holding down "Ctrl" and "D."
9. Click on the "Character Spacing" tab at the top of the font dialog box.
10. Locate the "Spacing" dropdown menu, and select either "Condensed" (to reduce the space between characters) or "Expanded" (to increase the space between characters.) Use the arrows in the adjacent "By:" menu to adjust the amount of spacing.
How to Change Spacing Between Paragraphs
11. Use your mouse to highlight the section of the document you want to change the paragraph spacing for, or hold down "Ctrl" and "A" to select the entire document.
12. Click the "Page Layout" tab at the top of the screen.
13. Locate the "Spacing" box in the "Paragraph" section of the "Page Layout" tab.
14. Click on the arrow buttons next to "Before:" and "After:" to adjust the paragraph spacing up or down until you have the desired settings.
